ELECTION NOTICE

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN THAT ELECTIONS WILL BE HELD IN ALL THE VOTING PRECINCTS IN MORGAN COUNTY, TENNESSEE, THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2018, FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING FEDERAL AND STATE PRIMARY ELECTIONS, COUNTY GENERAL AND MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS FOR THE CITY OF WARTBURG AND TOWNS OF OAKDALE AND OLIVER SPRINGS.  ALL VOTING PRECINCTS IN MORGAN COUNTY WILL BE OPEN BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9 AM AND 8 PM.  BELOW IS THE NAME AND ADDRESS OF EACH VOTING PRECINCT, THE ABSENTEE COUNTING BOARD, AND THE PROVISIONAL COUNTING BOARD IN MORGAN COUNTY, TENNESSEE.

THE MORGAN COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSION WILL BE OPEN FOR EARLY VOTING FOR ANY ELIGIBLE VOTER TO CAST A BALLOT BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE AT THE ELECTION COMMISSION OFFICE LOCATED IN THE MORGAN COUNTY COURTHOUSE, ROOM 105, 415 N. KINGSTON ST., WARTBURG, TENNESSEE AS FOLLOWS:

July 13th: 9 A.M.-4 P.M.         July 14th: 9 A.M.- 12 NOON

July 16-20th:  9 A.M.- 4 P.M.   July 21st: 9 A.M.- 12 NOON   

July 23-25th: 9 A.M.-4 P.M.

July 26-27th: 9 A.M.- 6 P.M. ●   July 28th: 9 A.M.- 12 NOON

REGISTERED VOTERS WHO WILL BE UNABLE TO GO TO THEIR POLLING PLACE ON ELECTION DAY MAY VOTE BY ONE OF THE FOLLOWING METHODS:

1.      VOTING BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE

BEGINNING JULY 13th THROUGH July 28th, A VOTER DESIRING TO VOTE BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE SHALL GO TO THE ELECTION COMMISSION OFFICE, PRESENT A VALID PHOTO ID, SIGN AN APPLICATION TO VOTE, AND CAST THEIR VOTE ON A VOTING MACHINE.  THE LAST DAY TO EARLY VOTE BY PERSONAL APPEARANCE IS SATURDAY July 28th AT 12 NOON.

PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT FOR ALL VOTERS AT POLLS:

All voters must present a Federal or TN State issued photo ID. The ID must contain the voter’s name and photograph.  For more information regarding exceptions, acceptable and non acceptable proof of photo ID, please contact our office or you may visit the Tennessee Division of Elections web site: http://www.GoVoteTN.com .  Acceptable PHOTO IDs include: TN driver license with your photo, Department of Safety and Homeland Security photo ID, TN hand-gun carry permit with your photo, United States Military photo ID, United States Passport, or any photo ID issued by the federal or TN state government (excluding college student IDs). Registered voters that do not have a valid PHOTO ID may add a photo onto an existing driver license or obtain a photo ID for voting purposes at no cost from the Tennessee Department of Safety at any participating driver service center. Also, the Morgan County Clerk office will add a photo onto an existing driver license for a fee.  Under the voter ID law, in order to get a photo ID for voting purposes, voters must show the following documentation to the Driver Service Center examiner: Proof of citizenship (such as a birth certificate); and, two proofs of Tennessee residency (such as copy of a utility bill, vehicle registration/title, or bank statement).   REMEMBER TO BRING YOUR PHOTO ID WITH YOU WHEN YOU APPEAR TO VOTE. THIS APPLIES TO EARLY VOTING AND ELECTION DAY.

     2.         VOTING BY MAIL

IN ORDER TO VOTE ABSENTEE BY MAIL, A VOTER MUST MEET CERTAIN LEGAL QUALIFICATIONS.  A VOTER WHICH REGISTERED OR VOTED PREVIOUSLY IN PERSON, DESIRING TO VOTE ABSENTEE BY MAIL, SHALL IN WRITING OR PRINT OVER HIS SIGNATURE EITHER IN PERSON AT THE ELECTION COMMISSION OFFICE OR BY MAIL, FAX, OR E-MAIL WITH AN ATTACHED DOCUMENT WHICH INLUDES A SCANNED SIGNATURE, REQUEST AN ABSENTEE BALLOT.  SUCH REQUEST FOR AN ABSENTEE BALLOT MAY BE RECEIVED NO EARLIER THAN MAY 4, 2018 AND MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN JULY 26, 2018 AT 4:00 PM.  THE REQUEST FOR AN APPLICATION CAN SERVE AS AN APPLICATION FOR ABSENTEE BALLOT IF IT CONTAINS THE FOLLOWING:  NAME, ADDRESS OF RESIDENCE, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, DATE OF BIRTH, ADDRESS OF DESTINATION TO MAIL THE BALLOT (IF REASON FOR VOTING IS OUTSIDE OF COUNTY), THE ELECTION THE VOTER WISHES TO VOTE IN, THE VALID REASON THE VOTER WISHES TO VOTE ABSENTEE, AND THE VOTER’S SIGNATURE.

2018 ELECTION NOTICE

On August 2, 2018, in all precincts of Morgan County, TN there will be a Federal and State Primary, State and County General Election, and in respective precincts- Municipal Elections for the City of Wartburg and the Towns of Oakdale and Oliver Springs. 

August Primary Elections: US Senator, US Representative-3rd Congressional District, Governor, TN Representative-41st District.

August General Elections:  Republican and Democrat Executive Committeeman and Committeewoman- 12th District. County Offices; County Executive, County Commission Districts 1-6 filling 3 seats each At-Large,Circuit Court Clerk, Trustee, Sheriff, County Clerk, Register of Deeds, Road Superintendent, School Board Members 1st, 3rd, 5th Districts-1 seat each. Municipal Offices; City of Wartburg in the Wartburg Precinct 3-1: Mayor, Alderman-1 seat At-Large. Town of Oakdale in Oakdale Precinct 2-2: Mayor, Alderman-2 seats At-Large. Town of Oliver Springs in Coalfield Precinct 1-1: City Finance Director/Court Clerk.

For all August Elections (and Independent Candidates for November General Elections which offices have an August Primary Election), Candidate Petitions are available beginning January 5, 2018 and will continue through the qualifying deadline at 12:00 NOON, Thursday, April 5, 2018. The Deadline for Sheriff Candidates to file documents and Affidavit for Election to the Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission is close of business March 22, 2018. The Deadline for Road Superintendent Candidates to file Affidavits of Qualification with the Tennessee Highway Officials Certification Board is close of business March 22, 2018.

On November 6, 2018, in all precincts of Morgan County, TN there will be a Federal and State General Election, and Municipal Elections for the City of Sunbright and Town of Oliver Springs.

November General Elections:  US Senator, US Representative-3rd Congressional District, Governor, TN Representative-41st District. Municipal Offices; City of Sunbright in Sunbright Precinct 5-1: Alderman-1 seat At-Large. Town of Oliver Springs in Coalfield Precinct 1-1: Mayor, Alderman- Ward 1 -1 seat, Alderman- Ward 2 -1 seat Alderman- Ward 4 -1 seat.

For all November Municipal Elections Candidate Petitions will be available beginning Friday May 18, 2018 and will continue through the qualifying deadline at 12:00 NOON, Thursday, August 16, 2018.

Military and Overseas Voters (UOCAVA) are required to file a new request for ballot by mail or email in each calendar year of the election.  This may be done with a Federal Post Card Application (Form 76) and can be submitted anytime after January 1st of the election year.  This annual one-time application is then good for all elections in that calendar year.  Local family members are encouraged to remind those persons living or serving out of state or country to submit their new requests to the Election Commission office.

Elderly voters and voters with disabilities assigned to vote in precincts where the polling place is inaccessible may vote early at the Election Commission Office during the early voting dates or by an absentee ballot by mail, or may vote at the Election Commission Office on Election Day. Any elderly voter or voter with a disability desiring to vote for their first time at the Election Commission Office on Election Day must notify the Election Commission Office in writing by July 23, 2018 for the August 2, 2018 Elections, or by October 27, 2018 for the November 6, 2018 Elections.  The last day to register to vote in the August 2, 2018 elections will be July 3, 2018. The last day to register to vote in the November 6, 2018 elections will be October 9, 2018.

List Maintenance: The Morgan County Election Commission is required by law every 2 years to perform "List Maintenance" on voter roles and to purge registrations classified "Inactive" for various reasons meeting certain criteria. This List Maintenance was last performed in 2017. If you have received a notice or believe that your registration may be "Inactive" and subject to purge, or simply want to check the status of your registration, please contact the Morgan County Election Office immediately as you may need to register prior to the deadline for registering in the next election.
